Class Synopses
Colored Pencil Drawing Classes. Using colored pencils, students will learn about the various types of colored pencils, learn how to apply varying pressure to create certain affects. They will also learn application techniques, the “5 Do’s to Better Hues” and how to burnish to achieve realistic representation. Besides drawing exercises, students will create a final painting using the lessons learned
4 week course Cost: $20.00 per student (includes all materials). Limited to 12 students
Clay Figure Sculpting. Students will learn to mold and knead earthenware to create a clay figure. They will learn terms used in working with clay. There will be two weeks to create a sculpture, then a week break while the figures are dried and fired. Then there will be 2 weeks to paint and decorate their figures. Finished products will be finished with an acrylic sealant.
4 week course (held over a 5 week period) Cost: $20.00 per student (includes all materials). Limited to 12 students
Learn to Weave. Students will create their own loom and learn how to set it up a loom with the warp and weave yarns. They will learn the terms used in weaving and then design and make their own woven creation.

Crochet 101. Learn the basics of crocheting starting with creating a granny square. Instructions are given on how to make single and double crochet stitches to create your granny square. All supplies are provided for the first assignment. From there students can make scarves, hats, more granny squares to make a blanket or other unique items. Yarn for their final product will be furnished by the students – this allows them to pick their colors and style of yarn.

Crochet 201. This class is designed for students who know how to crochet and want help with their projects.

Learn to Paint with Acrylics. Students will learn techniques on how to handle acrylic paints. This includes creating an underpainting, setup your paint palette, the application of paint – wet and dry techniques, mixing paints, how to keep paints from drying out while in use and much, much more

Learn to Paint with Watercolors. Students will learn techniques on how to handle watercolor paints. This includes developing the drawing and layout, setup your paint palette, the application of paint – wet and dry techniques, mixing paints.

Oil Painting with Lisa Bower. These are customized classes to fit individual needs. In these classes you will learn painting fundamentals, use of brushes to create varying brush strokes, blending and mixing colors, composition, indirect vs direct painting and more. Classes will run in 4 week increments and can be setup directly with the instructor to determine dates and times.

Fundamentals of Art. This is an 8 week program that covers the 7 basic essentials to art – Line, Shape, Form, Value, Texture, Space or Perspective, and Color. Additionally, students will be given instruction on composition. Students will have several exercises to do and will create 2 original artworks – one in drawing and one in color using acrylic paints.
8 week course Cost: FREE. Limited to 12 students
Self-Identity Portrait. This series encourages students to think about themselves in terms of symbolism. In this program, students explore what factors such as race, religion and family shape their personal identity. They will then create self-portraits made up of objects, symbols and/or imagery that represent various parts of their identities.
4 week course Cost: FREE. Limited to 12 students
Western Heritage Project. These lessons will cover what Western Heritage is and what that means to the students today. Western Heritage is a lifestyle. This includes work, family, community. Western Heritage was the generation that instituted the “reduce, reuse, repurpose” program. Nothing went to waste and values were high principles of living. These included family, hard work and pride in craftsmanship.
